Morlans Tunnel: an underground journey through the history of San Sebastian

How long is the Morlans Tunnel?

Originally, this tunnel was part of the railway line of the “Topo”, a train that connected San Sebastian with the French border. However, with the passing of time and the modernisation of transport, it fell into disuse… until someone had the brilliant idea of converting it into a cycle lane. Today, it is one of the most practical stretches for cycling around the city without facing impossible slopes.

The Morlans area: between urban and nature

The tunnel is not alone. It is in the heart of the Morlans neighbourhood, an area that has grown enormously in terms of urban development in recent years. It is just west of Amara, another key neighbourhood in San Sebastian, and connects directly with the bidegorri (cycle lane) that leads to the city centre and other key areas of the city.

The interesting thing about Morlans is that it combines the best of both worlds: on the one hand, it has modern, well-connected residential areas; on the other, it is a gateway to green areas such as Aiete or Miramón Park. If you like nature, from here you can cycle up to areas with stunning views and quiet trails.
